Jacqueline Aguiar, Rozalynn Reaser and Aubrey Bischoff will advance to the district contest. If they win at the district level, they go on to compete at the state and eventually the national level.
Alma Czinder, chairperson for the writing contest with the Hastings Elks 1965, said the contest is open to all seventh and eighth graders in the Barry County Schools.
Czinder said this is the first year Thornapple Kellogg Schools have participated. She said there were several entries and the top three selected to advance.
A program of the Elks’ Grand Lodge Fraternal Committee, this contest is geared toward students in fifth through eighth grades to promote patriotism among young people.
