Four Odyssey of the Mind teams from Thornapple Kellogg schools will advance to the state finals, which will be hosted at TK Schools March 19. Three of the teams placed first at the regional contest last weekend at Forest Hills and the fourth team finished second.Other TK teams placed third and fourth, just missing advancement to the state.

Warm, colorful, fun blankets were stacked high as Thornapple Kellogg Middle School students surveyed all they had made and were donating to DeVos Children's Hospital.
Some of the blankets were fun, zebra and cheetah prints. Others featured Star Wars characters or other favorite cartoon characters. There were camouflage blankets, Michigan and Michigan State blankets, and even TK orange and black blankets. Each design was handpicked by Lil Lienesch's students in hopes of bringing a little comfort to a sick child.

TKMS students will perform the play "Fractured" at 7 p.m. Feb. 24 in the high school auditorium. The play is a hilarious parody of fairy tales. Poor Princess Esmerelda falls in love with Lance A. Lot from the real world, but must marry a handsome Prince Charming. All the other fairy tales are in turmoil and fight to get to their "happily ever afters." The play includes many childhood favorites including a king, queen, prince and princess, talking mirror, Snow White, Beauty, Cinderella and many more. Don't miss this great show by the TKMS students!

Thornapple Kellogg 8th graders made a donation to the Middleville Veterans Memorial and will have an engraved brick at the site.

PERFECT IN PINK!! TKMS principal Brian Balding was true to his word and gave students the power to vote on his hair color for a day. The sixth graders earned the right to decide by earning the most positive behavior tickets for things like showing safety, integrity, responsibility and respect. WAY TO GO 6th GRADERS!! And a BRAVO to Mr. Balding for being such a great sport!

TKMS Robotics team was acknowledged Saturday, 11/21/15, at the Regional Tournament hosted by Grandville High School. They competed against 42 West Michigan teams and received the "Inspiration" award. This award celebrates a team that is empowered by their FIRST Lego League experience and displays extraordinary enthusiasm and spirit. FIRST is TKMS Robotics team was acknowledged Saturday, 11/21/15, at the Regional Tournament hosted by Grandville High School. This award celebrates a team that is empowered by their FIRST Lego League experience and displays extraordinary enthusiasm and spirit. FIRST is For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology. Team members include 6th graders Morgan Keller and Aubrey Bischoff, 7th graders Kyian Moma, Michael Willshire, and Jack Cove, and 8th graders Stefano Perra and Zane Walters. Great job representing TK, team!!

Zane Walters quickly attaches an arm to his teams' robot, then meticulously places the robot in an exact position at home base before turning the robot on and crossing his fingers.

Ty Brown stood proudly beside his father, Wade, before his entire eighth grade class at Thornapple Kellogg Middle School.  "Not a lot of kids know what it's like to be a military kid. Until you live it, you don't really understand it," said Ty.

Teams in Mrs. Aldridge's Mindstormers class design and test, then modify robotic Lego vehicles to try and win a tug-of-war contest. The teams adjust their robots by changing their gear ratios, wheel sizes, weight and engine power while staying within a time limit. The robots then try to pull other robots across a tug-of-war line. This hands-on technology curriculum engages and motivates students to learn science, technology, engineering and math concepts.
