Each link of a paper chain draped around the Lee Elementary library holds a pledge from second and third grade students. Their pledges are ways they can help make the world and their community a better place – pledges like loving each other, helping others, being kind and staying positive - all in honor of Martin Luther King day.

Laura Oprea and her middle school musical cast knew on the first day of practice COVID-19 could at any time force them to abandon their production and cancel their performances. It very nearly happened just two days before the three-night performances of “Schoolhouse Rock Jr.” were scheduled to run.

WOOD TV 8 weather intern Blake Harms visited TK 7th grade career exploration students last week offering an inside look at his job and advice for students as they start thinking about careers. “The best advice I can give you is to learn something new every day,” said Harms. “I don’t know it all, but I can certainly learn something every day – even if it’s just a little thing. You never truly know it all.”

Kaden Hamming is a local winner in the America & Me Essay Contest sponsored by Farm Bureau Insurance. With this year’s theme “My Personal Michigan Hero” in mind, Kaden wrote about his cross country coach, Maggie Wilkinson.

Thornapple Kellogg Schools were well represented with 11 teams at the regional Odyssey of the Mind competition in Wayland last weekend. The district will again be well represented by six teams advancing to the state finals March 14 hosted at TK Schools.

Izzy Schilthroat breathed a sigh of relief after coming out of a mock job interview with a Thornapple Kellogg administrator. “I was very nervous,” said the Thornapple Kellogg seventh-grader. “It’s not something I have ever done before.”
